Candace C. “Candy” Degenhardt, 73 of Reeseville, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at UW-Hospital of Madison.
Candy was born on February 27, 1953, in Waukesha, the daughter of John and Carol (Johnson) Wiesenthal. After graduating high school, Candy decided to pursue a career as a hairdresser and worked many years helping to make other people feel beautiful. On September 23, 2005, Candy was united in marriage with Terry Degenhardt and the couple shared almost 21 happy years together making many memories. In her free time, Candy was the queen of crafts and was known particularly for her wonderful handmade cards and jewelry. Her talents extended beyond the items she made to the connections that she made with people along the way. Everywhere she went, Candy looked to connect with others and make friends. Not just casual friends, but lifelong friends who loved her infectious smile and laughter. Her Christmas card list grew longer with each passing year. Candy had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats, dogs and horses. She had a kind, caring, and compassionate personality that drew people to her. Above all else, Candy had a strong faith that carried her through her life and brought her comfort as she faced many health challenges, even to her final days. Candy leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and trust in her Lord that her family holds deeply within their hearts. She will be dearly missed.
Candy is survived by: her loving husband Terry; children Corey (Kristi Luchterhand) Krueger and Stasia (Adam Bruhn) Van Alstyne; grandchildren Taylor (Evan) Dusa, Codey Krueger, Brooklyn Van Alstyne, and Gabrielle (Sean) Lum; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister Barbara (Frank) Lawrence. Candy is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Candy is preceded in death by her parents and a brother in infancy.
Per Candy’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held.
