Earl L. Winker went peacefully to his Lord on October 16, 2024, surrounded by his four sons and close family members, at UW Hospital. Earl succumbed to his injuries sustained in a tree stand fall the week prior.
Earl was born in Reeseville, WI, to Earl H. and Lillian (Stegner) Winker on November 17, 1932. After graduating from Dodgeland High School he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Indiana, Georgia and Alaska during the Korean War. Earl married the love of his life, Karen Rupnow on June 21, 1958. They had four sons, Brian (Cathy), Dale (Kerry), Scott (Karen) and Jay Winker.
Earl was a farm implement mechanic and salesman in Beaver Dam, Helenville and Watertown for nearly 50 years. Active until the very end, Earl loved hunting, fishing, sheepshead, gardening and watching Wisconsin sports. Most of all, he loved spending time with his kids, nine grandkids and seven great grandkids!
Earl was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Lowell VFW Post 9392 as well as Wisconsin Agri-Business Association and The Plattdeutscher Club.
Earl is preceded in death by his wife Karen of 61 years, his parents, and siblings. He is survived by his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren Steven (Kaitlin), Kimberly (Charles Michael) Engelbrecht, Dani (Jordan) Wood, Kevin, Zach (Jessy), Matthew, Anthony, Evan, and Kaley Winker, as well as great grandchildren Kenzington, Emersyn and Edalyn Winker, Calloway and Charlotte Engelbrecht, Maverick and Isabelle Wood. Earl is further survived by many friends and family, including his longtime friend and fishing partner Dick Hupf.
Earl was known for a zest for life and never stop attitude (some might say he was stubborn). He had an infectious laugh and a generous heart, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Watertown, on November 9, at 11:00am, with visitation from 9:00am until the time of service. A celebration of Earl’s life will take place immediately following services at the Lowell VFW.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Earl to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Lowell VFW Post 9392.
