Eugene G. Zastrow December 3, 1942 – December 27, 2025 | Age 83 Lake Mills, Wisconsin
Eugene G. Zastrow, age 83, of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, passed away on December 27, 2025. He was born on December 3, 1942, to Edwin and Gladys Zastrow, beginning a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and genuine connection with others.
Gene built his early career in auto sales, where his easy rapport and sincere interest in people made him well‑liked by customers and coworkers alike. He later transitioned into tool and die work, a field where his steady hands, sharp mind, and strong work ethic earned him deep respect. In retirement, Gene found great joy working for Nelson’s Bus Service alongside his son, helping transport crews when buses were delivered. He truly valued the management and employees there and cherished the friendships he made.
Outside of work, Gene enjoyed hunting, music, and spending meaningful time with friends and family. He loved riding his motorcycle — a pastime that brought him freedom, joy, and countless good memories. Gene also had a soft spot for his grand dogs, who added laughter and companionship to his days. Above all, he was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Gladys Zastrow; his brother, James Zastrow; his former wives, Cheryl Zastrow (Hill) and Teresa Zastrow (Schmutzler); and his partner of 25 years, Patricia Jameson. Their memory remained an important and enduring part of his life.
He is survived by his children: Kelly Hill, Kimberly Melcher (Jeff), Krista Hoffman (Jason), and Mark Zastrow (Roberta); his grandchildren: William Cunnyngham, Bryan Cunnyngham, Blake Yorek, Zachary Melcher, Noah Melcher, Morgan Zastrow, and Regan Zastrow; and his great‑grandchildren: Jack, Jett, and Jovie. He is also survived by the family of Patricia Jameson — Steven, Michael (Carol), Chris, Sean (Leanne), and Tony — all of whom remained an important part of Gene’s extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice, whose staff provided exceptional care, compassion, and dignity to Gene and his loved ones. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire hospice team — their kindness will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 17th, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 67, 129 South Main Street, Lake Mills, WI 53551. Gene will be laid to rest beside his wife Teresa at St. Henry Cemetery at a later date.
