LEBANON--Iris E. Steffen, age 87, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Iris E. Steffen was born on June 14, 1931 in the Town of Lebanon to Harvey and Clara (Radtke) Nass. On June 17, 1951 she married Hugo Goetsch. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1965. On December 17, 1967 she married Eugene Stewart and he preceded her in death on August 10, 1984. On May 8, 1988, she married Henry (Hank) Steffen and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2016. Iris worked at Brownberry Ovens, Oconomowoc; Household Finance, Watertown; and Dr. Robert Liners' Dental Office, Watertown. She was a past treasurer of the Town of Lebanon. Knitting, crocheting, and sewing were hobbies that Iris enjoyed. She was interested in genealogy. Learning about and recording family history were important to her. Volunteering was one of Iris's passions. She was a long-time 4-H leader in Dodge County working with the Lebanon Happy Troopers and Lebanon Luckies 4-H clubs. She and Hank served on the Dodge County 4-H Camp Committee for over 20 years. Iris was a county Resource Leader. She was active with the Clyman Lions, serving in a variety of leaderships roles. Iris was involved with Dodge County HCE (formerly Extension Homemakers) and was a member of Emerald Clovers HCE. She was currently serving as President of Dodge County HCE. Because of her love of nature, she volunteered at Marsh Haven Nature Center. She was very involved in her church and served on various committees. Iris was a member of the Lebanon Historical Society and was also involved with the Dodge-Jefferson Beekeepers. A recent endeavor was getting involved with Ruby's Pantry Food Ministry in Lebanon and Hartford. Iris will be remembered for her "can-do" attitude, generosity, and dedication to all that she was involved in. Through her volunteer work, she touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. She is remembered by her brother-in-law, Martin Christian, step daughters Sherry and (Stan) Jones and Linda Martinez. She is also remembered by her step-grandchildren, Heather Jones Kapelanski (Tim Kapelanski), Henry Martinez (Kim Crawford Martinez), and Angela Martinez, along with 7 step great grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Isabell Christian, and step son-in-law Alex Martinez. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 12 noon at the First Congregational UCC, Watertown. Burial will be at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Lebanon. Relatives and friends may call at the Church from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to First Congregational UCC, Marsh Haven Nature Center or the charity of one's choice. Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
