After retiring, He and Lucille enjoyed many family trips and camping outings. They made their two-three yearly trips to Branson, Missouri and visited the apple orchards of Wisconsin in spring and fall with fellow family members. Newt's two most enjoyable activities were family outings and/or trips with his large extended family members, and his spring and fall fishing trips with his brothers.
