Rita Anderson

May 24, 1945 — April 15, 2018

Rita Rae Anderson, Watertown, found peace on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Rita was born on May 24, 1945, to the late Arnold and Mildred (Nelson) Anderson. She was raised and attended public schools in Green Bay, graduating from West High School in 1963. Miss Anderson chose her career in education as a vocal music instructor. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and graduated in June 1967, having earned a bachelor of music education degree. Miss Anderson taught her first three career years in Marion, moving to Watertown in 1970. She worked with children from kindergarten through senior high, and in her new location was able to attend symphony, opera and ballet performances as well as local area concerts. She was nominated for, and received, a local Teacher of the Year award in 1977. Her retirement in June 2001 signaled 31 years working in several Watertown schools. As a vocalist, Rita sang for many area weddings, public concerts and churches, including the surrounding Moravian churches. She also directed choirs, volunteered to work at religious summer music camps and Bible school sessions. She was a member of the Music Educators National Conference, NEA, WEAC, American Choral Directors Association, Jefferson County Area Retired Educators Association, Watertown Arts Council, Euterpe Music Club and the Saturday Club. Rita is survived by her sister, Rosalie (the late Ken) Goos of Canada; her godchild, Michael Goos (Mariah and son Danny); sister-in-law Janice Anderson (friend Ron); niece Lisa (Jim) Holschuh; nephew Steven (Heidi) Anderson; great-nephew Taylor Anderson; great-nieces Cassie Mae Anderson and Olivia Holschuh; other relatives and many good friends. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Merlin and some relatives and friends. Rita Anderson's enjoyments in life were travel, attending live concerts and plays, dining out and being with people who laugh and possess a sense of humor. She enjoyed the lunches and coffee with friends and family. She particularly loved her 60-plus summers at the family cottages at Underwood Lake, Pound. The white birches and small spring-fed lake were Rita's Retreat. In recent years Rita treasured time on her deck in her backyard, especially when friends stopped by. Some of Ms. Anderson's greatest rewards were times when former students, their parents or other teachers mentioned enjoying her class or remembering certain songs, class activity or special concerts.
