SCHMIDT, RUSSELL WALTER WATERTOWN/DELEVAN Russell Walter Schmidt, age 64, formerly of Watertown, passed away due to lung cancer, on Sunday January 2, 2011, at Willowfield Nursing Home in Delevan. Russell was born on August 9, 1946 in Beaver Dam, the son of Walter R. and Myrtle R. (Brunk) Schmidt. He enlisted in the US Army in 1965, where he served for 16 years. He married the former Mary A. Geise of Watertown. Russ served in the Rangers Paratroopers, sniper division Army Air Corp and the Army Engineers. He has received numerous military medals and ribbons, having served in France, Germany, Korea, Vietnam (DMZ) and Tiawan. Following his military service he returned to Watertown and was employed by Spuncast until 1989, Byron Industries until 1994 and Kusel Equipment until 2000. He married Jean E. (Zimmerman) Naatz in 2000. Survivors include his wife Jean of Clearview in Juneau, his children Walter Jo, Christopher and Theresa, his brothers and sisters Helen (Kramer) Roessinger, Laurence, Harold (Sue), Alan, George, Ray (Laurie), Mary (Marvin) Saxby, Karen Huber, Linda (Richard) Kohls and Lois (Mark) Bauernfeind. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Dale and Donald and a sister Laura (Roeder) Parker. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 1 PM at Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home And Cremation Service with Chaplain John Mundt. Family burial will be in Southeastern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 12 PM to 1 PM at the funeral home.
