Thomas Buchanan

February 23, 1943 — July 16, 2015

Thomas R Buchanan, age 72, passed away on July 16th, 2015. He was born on February 23, 1943 in Lodi WI, son of George and Margaret (Lignell) Buchanan. He married Darlene Gobeli on September 23, 1967 and bought a farm in the Town of Medina in 1968. They had three children, Aaron (Stephanie Statz) and their children, Collin and Paige, Chris and children, Logan and step-son Tyler and Heather (Tony) Higgins and their children, Brett, Mason, Damon and Avery. Tom and Darlene parted ways.  About twenty years later, Tom met his match Carla (Allbaugh-Patterson). They married on March 19, 2004, and he gained two more children, James Patterson (Donna Manthey) and her son, Tom and Andrea Richter and children, Sara and Alex. Tom told his wife, Carla, he was going to marry a nice woman next time. The answer he received back from Carla was, he had married a nice woman the first time and needed someone just as mean as he was.  Tom served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked for several companies; Madison Silo Company, Hanley's in Sun Prairie, Art Craft in Waterloo, and Royle Printing in Sun Prairie. Tom retired from Royle in 2001, but the one thing he never retired from was his family and love of farming. He enjoyed the wonders of God's work in this world, monthly get-togethers with his brothers and sisters, sports (racing and football and grandchildren's sport activities), news and markets, and Judge Judy. Tom's loving heart, great skills and wonderful humor will be greatly missed.  Tom is further survived by brothers and sisters, Margaret Bong, Jo Ann (Richard) Beck, Diane Buchanan, Harry (Pam) Buchanan, George (Marlene) Buchanan, Janet Buchanan; brother and sisters-in-law, Leona Peck, William (Diane) Allbaugh, Steve Allbaugh, Stan (Donna) Allbaugh, Jolene Phillips, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard Buchanan and James Buchanan.  A Celebration of Tom's life will be held at MARSHALL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 318 William St., Marshall on Saturday August 1, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jan Beutin officiating. Burial to follow at Medina Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church on Friday 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and then again on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. The family wishes to thank the United Methodist Church, the doctors at UW Carbone Cancer Center, and Agrace Hospice.   Donations to Tom's family will be donated in Tom's memory to the United Methodist Church, UW Carbone Cancer Center, Food Bank in Waterloo, and Agrace Hospice.
